Effective meetings happen when expecting roles of participants are effective. Professor William and Miller wrote a classic text on discussion and meeting procedure; they recommended nine roles for you to play to succeed as a good participant during a meeting.

Organizer

An effective participant should meet the responsibilities of the organizer. You can meet the process of organizing the meeting by writing the objectives, negotiating, inviting and planning etc. In this way, you can understand the important things.

Clarifier

Sometimes, a chairperson of the meeting may misinterpret the exact questions or issues, participants can act as clarifiers when statements become unclear. So, in this way, other participants may perceive you intelligent.

Questioner:

Factual Contributor:

An effective participant role in the meeting may act as an energizer when groups can also feel ‘down’; energizer pursues the ways of keeping persons interested and motivated.

Idea Creator:

During the meeting on any stuck point, an effective participant can act as idea creator. This role can provide the help to the company to solve their issues. Idea creator can get the financial and non-financial benefits.

Critical Tester:

The test is required when testing opinions of others. Focus on the content rather than on who is making this statement. An effective participant should play the role of the critical tester in the meeting.

Conciliator:

An effective role of the participant may be a conciliator during the meeting. Who seeks to facilitate a negotiated agreement in which the business parties create issues, he develops the options, alternatives, and endeavors to reach an agreement.

Helper of Others:

A chairperson should invite all members of meeting to participate in the discussion. If the chairperson ignores anyone; participant can invite the silent member to participate. So, an effective role of participating as helper of others is good too.
